Hospitality

This week I participated in the She Reads Truth study on

hospitality

and it rocked my world! Believe it or not, the way the world views hospitality and the way Jesus portrayed it are very different.

From fancy invitations, to neatly pressed linens, to a spread of decadent food, there is nothing quite like the feeling of being welcomed in a hospitable manner.

If you know anything about my true heart's desire, you know I love to entertain. But what I've learned through this study, is no matter how tidy your house looks or how put together your family appears, Jesus wants you to do more.  He wants you to love the unlovable, even if we hit a wall every time.

Our hearts desire to feel belonged, accepted and loved.

And I want to take a moment to emphasis the "our" hearts. That means everyone. No matter your gender, race or social status. We all desire for the same thing.

Your family, friends, colleges, strangers - everyone.

And then I must confess this to you... this right here is where I fail. It is easy to show kindness to those that accept you, but Jesus calls us to be hospitable most importantly to those who make it difficult.  I must lean on Him to help make a conscious effort to love the unloveables.

We are called to an unexplainable, unusual kindness. We are called to reflect His own heart. A heart filled with patience, gratitude, compassion and love.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
