Our Wedding Flowers

For today's version of Wedding Wednesday, I'm going share about our wedding flowers.

When we decided on our theme, (Vintage Cuba) I knew I wanted a bouquet with soft colors that would compliment my lace & silk dress.

Many emails and visits to the florist later, we decided on - white hydrangeas, babies breath, spray roses, lily of the valley and assorted greenery.

I didn't get to see my bouquet until the day of (which freaked me out a bit) but I had full trust in the florist's work. Overall, I was very pleased with how my bouquet turned out and loved how well it complimented both my dress and husband's suit.

-------

At first, picking flowers was a challenge because of the strict budget we had. I'd much rather put money into bigger parts of the wedding (even though they are very pretty, remember they die the next day.)

After much research on  bridesmaid's bouquets, I fell in love with the idea of homemade lavender bouquets.

Farm + Vintage + November = Homemade Lavender Bouquets

Supplies:
Lavender Bunches
Green Foam
Ivory Satin Ribbon

How To:
- Take a bunch and wrap around green foam ball one by one. Stick some springs into the green foam and others around. (this is the tedious part)
- The fuller you want your bouquets, the more lavender you should use. (we were making 9 bouquets, so we couldn't use that many per.)
-Tie ribbon around bottom of lavender

Thank goodness for my bridesmaids!! They totally took this project on and tackled it in a few hours! I'm glad we got to assemble them together and spend extra time before the wedding!

Thanks for reading & sweet day!! Check back next week for the inside scoop on our wedding ceremony.

Setting The Foundation

As you know, we've spent the past couple weeks enduring house renovations and I honestly have to say, it hasn't been bad & I can't wait to see it complete!

Remember this video I showed you the other day about teachers at my school writing bible verses on the new elementary school walls? Well, it got me thinking...

A few sharpies and some special verses later, there you have it! On Thursday night when my hubby got home from work, I told him I had a surprise... & handed him a few sharpies along with some verses we cherished during the house buying process.

While we were writing away, we put on some Hillsong United and reflected together on the words we were writing. What a better way to begin our new life in this house, then by setting words to live by on the foundation. I hope to always remember this night and the joy it brought us both.

a failing attempt

I promise I had every intention of writing a post today, but the house renovations took over. You see, I grabbed my computer out of the office a few days ago to be able to write from our bedroom (aka where we are living out of for the next 3 weeks) but I forgot to grab the power chord. Then the laptop died. So there went my great post!

I hope you have a great weekend- I'll be spending mine venturing into our office, digging out the chord and working on some new goodies for you guys! I can't wait to share about the special activity my husband and I worked on last night ;)

My Bridesmaid's Attire

As I told you last week, I'm dedicating Wednesday to wedding recaps. On the crisp Sunday morning of November 25, 2012 Gabriel and I walked down the isle in Dade City, Florida. The day was glorious and brought me more joy than I ever thought possible! I'm dying to share so much with you, but promise to take it one week at a time!

This week I've decided to focus on my bridesmaid's attire.

Dress: Sophia from J.Crew (similar)
Fabric: Tricotine
Color: Fawn

A year before few months before the wedding, I sent my bridesmaids letters in the mail explaining wedding details. Sending a letter helped me organize my thoughts and made it easier to show what I was looking for (being that almost everyone was long distance from the venue, including me). They probably thought I was a little looney after receiving the letter, I know! ;)

I decided to stick with a neutral pallet for several reasons:
- went well with every skin tone
- a suitable fall color
- outdoor oak tree wedding

Shoes-
I asked my bridesmaids to wear any nude shoe they had or felt comfortable in. The more options you give, the easier it is.

Jewelry-
The day before the wedding, I gave my bridesmaids pearl bracelets as a gift. Pearls went nicely with the vintage theme and neutral pallet.

Hair-
Again, I wanted to keep it simple on my girls, so I told them to just wear their hair down. I think this option worked out great, especially since we didn't make arrangements to go to a hair stylist the morning of (our early Sunday weddings left no room for this).

Scarf-
As another gift, I gave my bridesmaids cream color scarves so that they would be able to wear it at the wedding (we woke up to 30 degree weather!!!) and to use after that.

When you are shopping for your bridesmaids, try to have your color scheme or theme in mind. Another reasonable idea is different choosing different style dresses in the same color. This option gives your bridesmaids a true sense of uniqueness and lets them find figure flattering styles.  So whether you are all about planning every detail or having your girls dress themselves, make sure to find an attire that reflects you and still lets them shine!

Need help with your selection, color, style or theme? Shoot me an email, I'd love to help!

At The Diaz House Lately...

Here are some bits and updates on what's been going on over at our house:

-On Friday, I got the keratin treatment and haven't been able to wash my hair since (on day numero 4, yikes!)

- In honor of passing the teaching certification test, my hubby and family took me out to Joe's Stone Crab on Miami Beach. (You haven't heard of Joe's, oh my! I know whole stone crab thing looks gross, but I can promise you that it's buttery amazing!)

-We've been spending lots of time organizing and getting rid of a ton of unneeded clothes.

-Planned out what will be going on with the reno starting today.

-While laying around lazy Sunday, I went through a bunch of inspirational magazines to look at window trim/ baseboard ideas and we ended our weekend with a trip the hardware store and found the winning baseboards!!!

Happy Demolition Day (to the floors at least).

What has your household been up to lately? I love all this stuff our weekends as newlyweds have been consisting of lately!!! I can't wait for the next one ;)
