Best Ever Turkey Lasagna

Being Cuban & Italian, I come from a long line of amazing cooks.

Every family gathering is always surrounded with tons of yummy food. Italian though, has always been my favorite to cook. There is something about sizzling tomato sauce, meat & pasta that is just so fulfilling.

This past weekend, Bubba & I went to Orlando to visit his family.  Although we had no intentions of cooking on this trip, word got around, that we love to cook together & the rest was history.

Oh & we cooked for 16... wow!
That's another thing about our families that we have in common.
They are huge!

All in all, the night was a lot of fun & a huge success!!

3 lasagnas, two Cesar salads & 40 pieces of cheesy garlic bread later.

:: Turkey Lasagna ::
{recipe adapted from mom's kitchen}

Ingredients:

:: salt/pepper/Italian seasoning
:: 1 jar of meat flavored Prego sauce
:: 1 egg
:: Olive oil
:: 2 tsp. sugar

How To:

Sauce:
1. Mince onion & garlic.
2. Place sauce pan over medium heat. Add 2 Tbs. olive oil, onion & garlic (saute about 5 mins).
3. Add packet of ground turkey to sauce pan.
4. Cook together until meat is fully brown.
5. Season with a dash of salt, pepper & Italian seasoning.
6. Pour entire jar of Prego sauce into browned meat.
7. Put to low & let simmer for 5-7 mins.
8. While simmering, add sugar, 1 Tbs olive oil, salt/pepper & Italian seasoning to taste.
9. Turn off heat & let sit for 5 mins.

Cheese:
1. Mix egg + ricotta cheese in large bowl.
2. Mix shredded mozzarella & cheddar cheese in another bowl.

Lasagna:
1. In a 9x13 baking pan, layer as such:

- Meat sauce
- Uncooked Lasagna Noodles (I use 3.5 per layer)
- Ricotta cheese mixture
- Shredded Cheese Mixture

Repeat 2 or 3 times.
Always finish with Shredded cheese mixture on top. Cover top with aluminum foil.

:: Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour. (during the last 10 minutes, take off aluminum foil cover.)

Maybe this recipe will come to mind next time you have a large party to feed. I actually think the lasagna tastes better the next day... for any pre party planners out there.

Happy Cooking!
