A Quick Weekend Getaway

Do you ever have those weekends when you wake up on Saturday morning and feel your possibilities are endless? That was us this weekend. We woke up. Set our newly delivered couch in place. Ate breakfast and made up our minds that we wanted to hit the road and head to Naples for the rest of the weekend.

There is something special about mini getaways. They help you recharge. They relax you. They make you feel like you've gotten away from it all.  Although Naples, is only a short two hour drive from our home, it is far enough to feel like you've gone to a far away paradise.

Welcome to Naples.

What do you do for a quick getaway?

It's Friday!

I thought I would start today by sharing a verse that helped this week go by...

"And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ, developing and perfecting and bringing to full completion in you."

I don't know about you, but after reading this verse during my quite early mornings, I was filled with peace, and hope for the day. Sometimes it's hard to complete everything you are "suppose to do" that day when you really just feel like cuddling on the couch in pj's and a big cup of coffee.  But nevertheless, God is doing a work in us. He has us where he wants us. He is developing us. He is perfecting us. He is making us complete.

Now who could complain about that?

Cheers to a great weekend, laughter and positivity!

How was your week?

how to add personal touches to your wedding

Creating personal touches for our wedding was my favorite part! I love it when weddings have touches of the couple all over!

Here are some ways we added "us-ness" to our day:

Adding personal touches to your wedding can be very simple - do not over complicate it. Just think about yourself.. look around your house, your room. Look for the little things that make you smile.

- wooden pallets
- hand written/tea dyed cards
- handmade cake stand
- favorite color wedding cake
- personal prints & pictures
- unique quest books: we choose the oak tree thumb print because we got married under an oak
- three chord strand ceremony
- communion
- chair signs
- Cuban cigar boxes
- table names with Cuban provinces

You see, all of these things were simple to either create or find and just took sometime into knowing how we wanted to incorporate them.  I promise, when you walk into the ballroom and see parts of you and your hubby everywhere, you will be instantly reminded what that day is all about.

Happy planning!

How To Organize Your Spices

After seeing how cluttered our spice cabinet could get  - it was time for a change!

The solution came from The Container Store! Have you ever been in there? The whole place feels like you are walking into an organization heaven. Amazing... and this spice pull down rack works like a dream!

See how quick and easy this project was! Not all organization projects take a ton of time, but the results are priceless!

Enjoy and Happy Friday! We are dog sitting Cortez this weekend while my inlaws head over to Disney- I'll make sure to post weekend snapshots on Monday!

{5 Ways to Freshen Up Your Home This Summer}

Have you walked into Pottery Barn lately? I was just there the other day and literally could not even take it all in. To begin with, PB is my favorite home store -- minus the sometimes outrageous prices. Nonetheless, their furniture, accessories, dinnerware, towels and just about everything is quite amazing.

Currently, the store is surrounded in cool blues, greens, ivory, cream and silver.... which sort of sounds similar to this little house.

Remember the paint colors we went with last summer? Believe it or not, we are still painting around here- we learned that painting before doing major renos is not a great idea. So now, we have been spending months going back in and touching everything up.

Want to give your house a summer update?

1) Add a fern - fresh greenery is always nice in the kitchen/dining room area. We choose to stick with a fern because of its fullness, and filled the glass pitcher next to it with real lemons to contrast in color. Of course, the downside of eating your decor is keeping it long enough to look set at all times.

2) New prints - Yes, pictures are always lovely - but how about throwing a new print into the mix. Have you seen the new fad lately all over pinterest? We had this print displayed at our wedding and loved it so much, that we decided to display it on our home buffet table.  & reclaimed wood frames- can't get much cozier than that!

3) Fresh feeling silk flowers - I'm not a huge fan of fake flowers, unless they actually feel real. Try adding a short bouquet of neutral flowers to instantly make your room feel softer & more romantic. We placed the bouquet next to a black & white wedding picture and put it onto a silver serving tray in our master bedroom.

4) Sea shells & recycled glass jars - they are all over PB right now. Just take a recycled glass jar (this one I thrifted)  and fill it with all sorts of different sea shells or even sand. I picked up these shells while at the beach last summer and still have a lot more filling up to do to make this jar complete.

5) Lanterns & candles - I love hosting dinner or brunch parties and having candles lit. It instantly sets the mood, right?! When I found these lanterns, I knew they would be the perfect addition to our seafoam green buffet table.
